Why Parents and Kids Love It

Why Parents and Kids Love It

Choosing the right bike for your child is about more than size - it’s about confidence, comfort and the freedom to enjoy every ride.

Our kids’ bikes are thoughtfully designed around real-world research and rider needs. The ensuring a better fit, easier handling, and long-lasting quality. From first pedals to growing independence, every detail is built to support young riders and give parents complete peace of mind.

Our kids’ bikes are designed to fit children properly, making them safer, easier to ride, and more confidence-inspiring from the very first ride.

The Best Fitting Children’s Bikes

The fully researched fit of our children’s bikes creates greater rider confidence and bikes that grow with your child.

Ridgeback's Kid's bike designs are based on Dept of Health and Royal College of Paediatrics data and peer-reviewed ergonomic studies. This data covers height and proportion by age and drives the detail of our frame designs so we’re confident they’ll fit children better, for longer.

We know a child feeling safe and confident is key to learning to ride and this is most important when they get onto a new bike. A child within the recommended height range is able to touch the ground with both feet (flat, or the balls of their feet) while sitting on the saddle, ready to go. From here they can ride away happily, our shortened pedal cranks helping pedalling ability from a lower saddle position – no cramped styles here. Raise the saddle as needed, there’s plenty of growing room in these bikes.

Differences You Can Measure

Attention to detail makes our bikes easier and safer to ride.

Ridgeback Kid’s optimised frame designs need components that fit just as well to match. Many children’s bikes use the same diameter handlebars and grips as an adult’s bike has - the grips are simply too big and small hands are less able to grip easily or reach the brake levers and gear shifters. To resolve that we’ve fitted slimmer 19mm diameter bars and slimmer grips on all sizes of our children’s bikes; the bars can also be rotated forwards or backwards to fine-tune the fit as they grow. We specify suitably short cranks with narrow spacing (reduced 'Q factor') and soft memory foam saddles to help with pedalling too.

All these details combine with our ergonomic frame designs to provide comfort and confidence that transform a child’s ability to enjoy riding.
